About Professor K

I have been using Apple and iLife products for a number of years (decades actually). I was the advisor for the first regular monthly newspaper from an Illinois alternative (Special Education) high school back in the 1980s and 1990s, and we prepared these issues on Apple IIe computers. I have been involved in technology education and integrating technology in the classroom for many years. I hold a few copyrights on software I have written (Money Spin as an example) and also wrote a number of other applications for the alternative school on an Apple IIe. Money Spin, Money Holiday, and Money Sports are now available on the iTunes App Store for iPads, iPod Touch, and iPhones.

Over the years I have developed my own curriculum because technology creates new challenges for teachers, students, and society that cannot be met by just teaching out of books that may be out-dated. I worked on Illinois statewide committees (Illinois Career & Technical Education Revitalization Initiative) and task-forces (Computer Applications) over the past few years for improving curriculum and software applications to meet these new challenges. While working with these groups, I have created many lessons, some which can be accessed by other teachers including: introduction to marketing - digital photography - podcasting. My students have excelled and that has allowed me to earn a Quill & Scroll Award, two Best Buy Teach Awards, a WalMart Teacher of the Year Award, a 2009 Apple Distinguished Educator Award, and 3M Innovative Economic Educator Award.

Since Apple released iBooks Author in January 2012, I have created over 75 technology publications for students, schools, and learners across the world. The A2Z4U&me series is being written for early learning and special needs students. The UREAD / UBUILD series allows everyone to create their own ebooks. Thousands of downloads later, I am still teaching technology, including web design, marketing, multimedia, and graphic design. I am now an adjunct professor at a local college teaching technology.
